Earthquake Recovery

News

31/10 Please pray as we seek to follow God's guidance on where he would have us serve next.

15/10 A team called the "Grubby Angels" came up from down south to help out where they could. In the four days they were with us they blessed us immensely. They ran a kids program during the school holidays and held a BBQ community event to reach out to the community. They did many things and were a great answer to prayer. May God truly bless them.

05/10 A Post Quake shop was held in the church to help people be more informed of common signs of stress related to the earthquakes and suggestions on how to support and encourage one another.

30/09 Emergency survival kits were made up and distributed to the elderly in Rutland Street Chapel and for anyone else wanting to have one.

16/09 The joint service with the Samoan Church was a great success! What an uplifting time of fellowship! I am sure both churches were equally blessed.

01/09 Please pray as the final preparation are being made for the joint service we are having this Sunday with the Samoan Church. I am sure the Lord will be present and it will be a great celebration of our Lord on the anniversary of the very first quake in Christchurch!

24/08 Rutland Street Church is having a combined service on the 4th of September with the Aranui Samoan Church. This is the church we have been working with directly to help with the needs of the Aranui Community. Please come along to the service (Rutland Street Church Building), we are so excited to see how the Lord is going to bless us both through this combined service.

17/08 The weather in Christchurch this week as been very "winter like". We received about 25cm of snow! The snow has made it difficult for Earthquake related jobs to get done. Please pray for some warmer weather so we can continue doing the Lord's work.

04/08 It is wonderful to see how God's people are willing to work together to help those in need around us!

28/07 The team became aware of a need for emergency kits among the seniors in the church and the Lord has provided the money we need to supply them with kits for the future! God is Great!

21/07 The team is continuing to help the people of Christchurch where needed, delivering food parcels, helping with R&M around the homes, rubbish removal etc.

14/07 The EQ team has been given quite a few gas heaters as well as snuggly rugs to give away where needed. The Lord is so good!

07/07 Earthquake repairs and maintenance continue after the June earthquakes, Mark, Aidan and their team are being kept very busy. We are also now trying to focus more of our attention on the emotional and spiritual side of things. There is a strong emotional support team that has been created to help with this.

29/6 Thankfully the weather was excellent for the Woodend Camp working bee. Camp Secretary Lieuwe Doubleday advised." You have left us in the very happy position where the bunk rooms are fire proofed and ready for installation of the bunks, carpet and final paint – and the new meeting room – looks fantastic!! This is now the culmination of a project that started two years ago and seemed impossible and in the space of a weekend it is all but finished."

24/6 For those who are wondering and have read Nan's story in newsletter 2 below. The good news is Nan's home is in the Red Zone and she already has plans for moving. However seven other families in the Church are in the unenviable position of finding they are in the Orange Zone

21/6 FUEL the mens group at Rutland Street Church are leading a major working bee/build at Woodend Christian camp this Friday and Saturday. The camp though not directly hit by the earthquakes has suffered particularly through the cancellation of many of the schools and other groups that were booked in for camps in the first half of this year. Please pray that the weather will fit the needs over these two days.

20/6 Well what a very special weekend for all those who attended the counseling seminar, including some all too real earthquake scenarios that we worked through over dinner on Saturday night. The sessions can all be downloaded off the website http://www.rutlandstreet.church.net.nz/rsssermon.php

17/6 5.6 and 6.3 on Monday for some it's almost as though they have developed a system for handling these quakes. For others it's been the last straw. We'd value your prayers for the counseling seminar that starts tonight. Around 70 have booked to attend and with counseling services across town having record numbers calling for help it again seems God's timing is perfect.

13/6 Thanks to everyone who prayed. You'll be pleased to hear we had a super afternoon on Saturday with around 40 cubic meters of blankets and clothes given away not to mention the food and great entertainment. A number of Gideons New Testaments were also handed out along with a number of tracts.

26/5 Great news. We have clothes coming from all directions for the Winter Warm-up. Most significantly Arise Church in Christchurch who need to empty out some warehouse space have a truckload of pre-sorted clothing for us to collect

23/5 First Aid Counseling in Post Earthquake Christchurch. Russell Hohneck Senior Pastor Riverbend Church and Greg Stephenson of Shepherd's Bible College are coming to RSC on the 17th & 18th of June to further equip church members in their aim to help their communities. 16/5 In conjunction with the Aranui Samoan Assembly RSC Earthquake Response Team is organising a Winter Warm-up Event to be held at Wainoni Park on Hampshire St June 11th 12 noon - 2pm. A BBQ :: Live Entertainment and warm clothing will be on offer to the community in this part of the Eastern Suburbs where the sewerage system is still out of action.

9/5 Thanks to funding from GCIM Kristin Raney has been able to be employed 10 hours a week in the office at Rutland St Church to provide administrative support to the earthquake response team

21/04 Up to 37 children from the community attended the programme each day with many parents indicating how very helpful it was to have this support. Maria Torrance from Auckland led an excellent programme that allowed many children for the first time to understand the true reason for Easter.

11/04 Kids Club is on again during the holidays leading up to Easter.
